An Electrolux dishwasher that stays silent when you press start is usually telling you something. Before you assume the control board has failed, go through the basics.
Easy checks
- Close the door firmly. A door that is not fully latched blocks the start. Listen for a click.
- Look for a control lock symbol and release it as described in your guide.
- Check that a cycle is selected and press start within the time allowed.
- Confirm power at the breaker and the plug under the sink if there is one. A tripped breaker is common after a storm.
- Note any code on the display. Write it down exactly.
Why the door matters
A dishwasher will not run unless the latch switch confirms the door is closed. If the latch is bent, loose or worn, the dishwasher may act dead. Try closing the door with a little extra lift, and notice whether it starts only when you hold the door a certain way.
Water and the start sequence
Some dishwashers fill first and then begin washing. If you hear the fill valve but the wash never begins, the issue may be the pump or the control. If you hear nothing at all, power, the latch or the board come into play.
What the display alone cannot tell us
A code on the display points to an area, not a part. A latch switch and a control board can look identical from the outside, and replacing the wrong one costs money. We test the switch and the supply voltage first.
Older dishwashers
Dishwashers that are 8 to 12 years old commonly develop latch and control problems. We repair them, and we tell you when a repair no longer makes sense.
The dishwasher repair page shows the models we work on. To get on the schedule, phone us or use the contact form and share any code you saw. We arrive within a 9-12, 1-4 or 4-7 slot, test the latch and board first, and give you the repair cost in writing for approval.
