Electrolux ice makers come in two forms: the one inside a refrigerator or freezer, and a separate undercounter unit. Both depend on a clean, steady water supply, and the refrigerator type also depends on the freezer holding the right temperature.

Houston water brings its own wear. Mineral buildup slows valves and coats surfaces, and a filter left past its change date can restrict flow. Humidity and heat also push freezers to work harder, and a freezer that runs slightly warm may quit making ice while still holding food.

We check the water supply and filter, the fill tube, the water valve, the freezer temperature and the ice maker’s own switch and sensor. On an older unit out of warranty, we tell you whether a repair is reasonable or whether replacing the unit is the better move.

05Ice Maker questions
Why has my ice maker stopped producing?

The usual causes are a frozen fill tube, a closed or clogged water valve, a clogged filter, or a freezer that is too warm. Check that the bin is seated and the filter is not overdue before looking further.

Why does my ice taste bad?

Ice absorbs odors from the freezer, and old filters can pass along taste from the water. Replace the water filter, clean the bin and make sure food is sealed. If the taste stays, the supply line deserves a look.

Is the ice maker or the refrigerator the problem?

Both can look the same from outside. A warm freezer stops ice, and a bad water valve stops ice in a cold freezer. We check the freezer temperature and the water flow first to tell the two apart.
