What E5 means
Seen only in the error log, E5 on Electrolux ICON and IQ under-counter ice makers, models such as the EI15IM55GS, E15IM60GSS and E15IM60GPS, means thermistor 1 stayed out of its expected range at +10 F for more than 12 hours. The sensor is still reporting a number, unlike the open or shorted codes, but the number is not where it should be for that long. Owners may see the unit stop with ER, or notice ice that is not forming normally.
Common causes of E5
- Thermistor 1 reading wrong
- Ice maker not cooling as it should
- Control board reading of the sensor
1. Check that the unit is plugged in and the door is fully closed. 2. Make sure nothing blocks the air openings around the unit. 3. Do not open the cabinet to look at the sensor. 4. Call us and tell us what the display shows.
- A sensor that reads off for 12 hours can mean a bad sensor or a unit that is not cooling right, and the log cannot say which, so we test both.
- We compare what the sensor reports with real temperatures.
- You see a written price before work, and on an older unit we say plainly when a repair is not worth it.
Other Ice Maker codes
How is E5 different from E1 and E2?
E1 and E2 mean the sensor circuit is open or shorted. E5 means the sensor still works but reads out of range at +10 F for a long time, which can also reflect the unit itself.
Why does the code mention 12 hours?
The control waits that long before logging it, so a brief change such as an open door does not set it off. A code means the reading stayed wrong for a long stretch.
Can I run the unit in the meantime?
It may keep making some ice, but we suggest you call us rather than rely on it, because the reading it is working from may be wrong.
Still seeing E5?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
