What E8 means
E8 on an Electrolux ICON or IQ under-counter ice maker, such as the EI15IM55GS, E15IM60GSS or E15IM60GPS, points to thermistor 3. The control found the third temperature sensor open or shorted, so it cannot read a temperature from it. You will not see E8 on the display. It is read in service mode, and the owner sees ER and a unit that has stopped making ice.
Common causes of E8
- Thermistor 3
- Thermistor 3 wire or connector
- Board input for thermistor 3
1. See that the display shows ER and the unit is not making ice. 2. Check that the unit has power and the door is fully closed. 3. Look for a scoop or chunk of ice that might be holding the door off its seal. 4. Leave the cabinet closed and the wiring alone, then call us and mention ER.
- The control cannot read the sensor, but it cannot say if the sensor, wiring or board is responsible, so we test them in turn.
- We read the error log for any other sensor codes.
- We quote in writing before we start, so you know the cost first.
Other Ice Maker codes
Which sensor does E8 mean?
It means thermistor 3. E7 is thermistor 2, and E9 is thermistor 4, so the number tells us exactly which circuit to test when we read the log in service mode.
Can I find that out from the display?
No. The display shows ER, and the E number is read in service mode by a technician. That is why we ask you to tell us what the display shows when you call.
Is the ice maker usable meanwhile?
It stops making ice while the sensor circuit is out, so there is nothing to use until it is repaired. Ice already in the bin can be used if it is still frozen.
Still seeing E8?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
