What E6 means
E6 is a service-menu code on the Electrolux ICON and IQ under-counter ice makers, models such as the EI15IM55GS, E15IM60GSS and E15IM60GPS. It mirrors E5, but on the other side: thermistor 1 stayed out of range at -10 F for more than 12 hours. The sensor still reports a value, but not one the control expects for that long. The display may show ER, the unit may stop, and the ice may stop forming normally.
Common causes of E6
- Thermistor 1 reading wrong
- Ice maker running too cold or too long
- Board that interprets the sensor signal
1. Make sure the unit is plugged in and the door is closed. 2. Check that nothing, such as a scoop or ice, is jammed against the sensor area. 3. Leave the cabinet closed and do not touch the sensors. 4. Call us and tell us the display shows ER.
- A sensor reading off the low side can be the sensor or a unit that is running too cold, so we test both.
- We compare the sensor reading with real temperatures.
- We quote the repair in writing, and you decide before we start.

How is E6 different from E5?
E5 logs a reading that is out of range at +10 F, and E6 logs one that is out of range at -10 F. The sensor is the same, but the direction of the problem is the opposite.
Does it always mean a bad sensor?
No. The sensor could be reading correctly while the unit runs too cold. That is why we test the sensor against real temperatures instead of replacing it right away.
Why did the unit wait 12 hours?
The control waits that long to avoid logging a brief change, so seeing E6 means the reading stayed wrong for a long time and is worth a proper check.
Still seeing E6?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
