What P1 means
P1 on the Electrolux ICON and IQ under-counter ice makers, models such as the EI15IM55GS, E15IM60GSS and E15IM60GPS, means the pump circuit sees a high water level in the ice bin and reads open. The usual reason is a blocked or kinked drain line, and units with the optional drain pump can also have a pump problem. Meltwater cannot leave, so it backs up in the bin. This is one of the two codes the owner sees directly, the other being ER.
Common causes of P1
- Blocked or kinked drain line
- Drain pump, if the unit has one
- Water level sensing in the bin
- Drain connection at the sink or standpipe
1. Turn the unit off and let the water settle. 2. Check the drain line for kinks and make sure it slopes down to the drain. 3. Look for a clog or buildup at the end of the line. 4. Clear the drain, and if needed consult a plumber, then restart. If P1 returns, call us.
- P1 tells us water is not leaving, but not whether the line is blocked or the pump circuit is failing, so we check both.
- We run water through the drain and watch the pump if the unit has one.
- You see a written price before we start, and the work has a 30-day warranty.

Is P1 a plumbing problem?
Often, yes. A blocked drain line is the usual cause, which is why the guidance is to clear the drain or consult a plumber. If the drain is clear and P1 returns, we check the pump circuit.
Is there a risk of a leak?
Yes, water backing up in the bin can overflow onto the floor. Turn the unit off and wipe up any water you see, then work on the drain.
Does every unit have a drain pump?
No. A drain pump is optional, so on units without one we focus on the drain line and how the water level in the bin is sensed, before looking at any pump.
Still seeing P1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
