What F40 / F41 means

F40 and F41 are cooktop lockout codes on Electrolux electric ranges and cooktops, as the owner guide describes them. The control has locked out the cooktop and will not let the surface elements run. You see the code on the display and the cooktop does not respond. These codes are different from the lock you switch on yourself. Many ranges that show them are older, and we repair them.

Common causes of F40 / F41

  • Surface control board
  • Connections between the surface control and the oven control
  • Touch panel or keys
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Cut power to the range for half a minute, using the plug or the breaker. 2. Restore power and see whether the cooktop responds. 3. Wipe the control panel dry and make sure nothing rests on it. 4. If F40 or F41 returns, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • The code tells us the cooktop is locked out by the control, but it does not name the part, so we test the connections and boards in order.
  • We confirm which of the two codes is showing, because it helps us narrow the cause.
  • The quote is in writing before any board is touched, and our work is covered for 30 days.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F40 / F41F40 / F41 questions
Is F40 the same as the lock feature?

No. The lock feature is one you switch on yourself and cancel with a long press. F40 and F41 come from the control, and a reset may not cancel them.

Why would my cooktop lock out on its own?

The control may have lost contact with the surface control or sensed a problem in it. We test the link and the boards to find out which.

Will the oven still work?

Often it does, but we cannot promise it. Tell us what still works when you call, and we will plan the visit around it. That tells us whether the lockout is limited to the cooktop.
