Smell of gas near the range

Electrolux ranges cover gas, electric, dual-fuel and induction cooking, with ovens that use convection fans and touch controls. Older Wave-Touch and Icon lines are still common in Houston kitchens. A range combines heating parts, a gas or electric supply and electronic controls in one cabinet.

Heat and humidity age ranges in familiar ways. Grease and moisture reach the controls and burner caps, igniters weaken with age, and door gaskets stiffen. Dual-fuel and gas models also depend on a correct gas connection, and if the gas line itself needs work, that belongs to a licensed plumber.

We start with the power or gas supply, then move on to the igniter or element, the sensors and the control. For older ranges outside warranty, we say plainly when a repair makes sense and when replacing is the better route.

05Range questions
My oven does not heat to the temperature I set. Why?

An oven that runs cool is often caused by a failed bake element or igniter, a worn temperature sensor or a bad control. The display shows the setting, not the true temperature, so we measure it before replacing anything.

I smell gas near my range. What should I do?

Step outside, keep switches and flames away, and phone your gas utility from there. Leave the range off until the source of the smell is found. A leaking gas line is a job for a licensed plumber or the utility.

Is an old Electrolux range worth repairing?

Often, if the problem is an igniter, an element or a sensor. If the control board and several other parts are failing together, replacing may be wiser. We lay out both options before work begins.
