What HE (radiant) means
HE on Electrolux radiant electric ranges with the electronic surface control, such as the EW30EF65GS, stands for hot element. It simply tells you the cooktop surface is still too hot to touch after the element has been turned off. This is a normal status message, not an error, and it goes out by itself once the surface cools. Nothing needs repair when HE appears after cooking.
Common causes of HE (radiant)
- Residual heat on the glass cooktop (normal)
- A surface sensor reading wrongly only if HE stays on a cold surface
1. Keep hands and towels off the glass while HE is lit. 2. Wait for the cooktop to cool and the light to go out. 3. Wipe up spills after it has cooled. 4. If HE stays on long after the surface is cold, call us.
- A light that never goes out on a cold cooktop is the only case that needs testing.
- We would check the surface sensor reading before the control.
Other Range codes
Does HE mean something is broken on my range?
No. It is the hot element reminder and only means the cooktop surface is still hot enough to burn you. The cooktop is doing exactly what it should do after cooking.
When should HE turn off?
When the glass has cooled to a safe temperature, usually a while after cooking ends. A big pot or long cooking time makes the surface stay hot, and HE stay on, for longer.
HE is on and the burner is off. Is that normal?
Yes, right after cooking. If the cooktop is cold to the touch hours later and HE is still lit, that is when to call us so we can check the surface sensor reading.
Still unsure about HE (radiant)?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
