What E8 / E9 means
E8 or E9 on an Electrolux ICON built-in all-refrigerator column with the Custom Set control, such as the E32AR75JPS or EI32AR65JS, is the temperature sensing error alarm. One of the temperature sensors is giving the control a bad reading. After an hour the alarm beeps, and the display alternates E8 or E9 with 33 F while the control keeps the column near its factory-set temperature instead of following your setting.
Common causes of E8 / E9
- A temperature sensor reading outside its normal range
- The sensor wiring or connector
- The control that reads the sensor
1. Press ALARM OFF to silence the alarm. 2. Check a thermometer in the cabinet to see how cold the food is. 3. Keep the door closed as much as possible. 4. Call us for service. A sensor problem will not fix itself.
- The code does not say which sensor, so we test each one and its wiring.
- We check the control only after the sensors read correctly.
- Nothing is replaced until you have seen and approved the price, and the finished work is warranted for 30 days.
Other Refrigerator codes
Why does E8 or E9 show with 33 F?
The display alternates the code with 33 F while the control holds the unit at its factory-set temperature. It is the control telling you a sensor problem is active and it is playing safe.
Can I keep using the refrigerator with E8 or E9?
For a short time, yes, but watch the temperature with a thermometer. A sensor problem can leave cooling out of step with your setting, so food may run warmer or colder.
Does pressing ALARM OFF fix it?
It only silences the alarm. The sensor problem remains until it is tested and repaired, so if E8 or E9 comes back, we need to check the sensors and their wiring.
Still seeing E8 / E9?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
