What H / HI means
A blinking HI on an Electrolux refrigerator with an electronic display, such as the EI23BC30KS, EI28BS55IS or ERFC2393AS, means the refrigerator or freezer has been too warm. Depending on the model, the alarm sounds after 20 minutes or after about an hour, and the High Temp indicator comes on. When you acknowledge it, the display shows the highest temperature reached. Common causes are an open door, a power interruption or heavy loading with warm food.
Common causes of H / HI
- A door left ajar or not sealing
- A recent power outage or warm groceries
- A cooling or airflow problem behind the HI reading
1. Check that all doors are closed and sealed. 2. Press CLEAR ALERTS or mute sounds to silence the alarm. 3. Unplug the refrigerator for 30 seconds if the model's guide allows a reset, then plug it back in. 4. If HI returns, call us and move perishables if needed.
- If HI keeps coming back, we check whether the unit is cooling at all and why.
- We look at door seals, airflow and the sensors.

Is the HI alarm always serious?
Not always. A door left open or a load of warm groceries can trigger it. If HI returns with the doors closed, the cabinet may not be cooling properly, and we should check it.
Why does the alarm time differ between models?
Models differ. Some sound after about 20 minutes of high temperature, others after about an hour, and the owner guide for your refrigerator has the exact timing.
Should I throw out the food after a HI alert?
Check the highest temperature the display shows when you acknowledge the alert, and use your judgment about perishable food. If cold items feel warm, it is safer to discard them.
