What F20 means
F20 on Electrolux electric and induction ranges that use the ESEC surface control, such as the EW30IS65JS, EW30ES65GS and EW30EF65GS, means the oven controller found a problem with its communication link to the surface element controller. The oven side and the cooktop side of the range must talk to each other, and when that link is broken, one or both stop working. You see F20 on the oven display. The surface elements may be dead too.
Common causes of F20
- Wiring and connectors between the oven control and the surface controller
- ESEC surface control board
- Oven control board
1. Remove power from the range for up to half a minute, at the plug or the breaker. 2. Restore power and try one surface element and the oven separately. 3. Note what works and what does not. 4. If F20 keeps returning, the link needs a closer look, so call us.
- The code reports a broken link between two controls, so we test the connection before blaming either board.
- We check which side still works, because it shows us where the break is.
- Parts are never ordered before you approve the quote in writing, and the repair is covered for 30 days.

What is the ESEC?
It is the electronic surface element control, the board that runs the cooktop. F20 means the oven control cannot talk to it. When that link is broken, we start there rather than with the boards.
Will the cooktop work if the oven shows F20?
Possibly, but we cannot promise it. The link is lost, so either side may misbehave. Tell us what you see and we will plan the check.
Can I fix F20 myself?
The reset is something you can try. If F20 comes back, the link needs testing with the right tools, which is why we handle it on site.
Still seeing F20?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
