Older Electrolux Icon Range: Repair or Replace?

For an Electrolux Icon range that is 10 to 20 years old, the question is rarely whether it can be fixed. It is whether it should be.

An Electrolux Icon range that is 10 to 20 years old can often be repaired. Whether it should be depends on three things: what is wrong, whether parts are available, and whether the unit is still safe.

Repairs that usually make sense

  • Burner igniters, spark modules and surface valves on a range that is otherwise sound.
  • Bake or broil elements on an electric or dual-fuel model.
  • Door switches, thermostats and sensors.
  • Control boards, when a replacement board is available.

Reasons to lean toward replacing

  • Cracked cooktop glass or a rusted-through cooking surface.
  • Repeated repairs of different parts within a short period.
  • A warped oven door that no longer seals.
  • Parts that are no longer available.
  • A repair that costs a large share of a new range.

Our job is to give you the honest picture. We give you a written price before work and let you decide.

Safety signs to take seriously

Stop using the range if you notice:

  1. A burner that clicks and does not light, or a flame that is mostly yellow or lifting off the burner.
  2. A smell of gas that does not go away.
  3. A burning smell or smoke from the oven when empty.
  4. Sparks or a tripped breaker when you turn on an element.
  5. A door that will not close fully.

If you smell gas, leave the house, avoid switches and flames, and call the gas company from outside. Gas line work, such as replacing a connector or valve at the wall, belongs to a plumber, and we will tell you when a job falls on that side.

What we check on an older range

We look at the burners, igniters, elements, door seal, wiring and shutoff valves, and we test the oven temperature against the dial. A range can look fine and still run well off its set temperature.

Our range repair page covers the burners, elements and controls we work on. Describe the age of your range and what it is doing when you contact us by phone or form, and we will help you decide whether to book a repair visit. If we find the range is not worth fixing, we say so before you pay for parts.

Tell us the model and the code. We will bring the part.
