What i52 / i53 means
These two codes appear on Electrolux ICON built-in dishwashers such as the EI24ID50QS and EW24ID80QS. Both say the wash pump motor is drawing too much current. An i52 comes from the hardware current limit, which is roughly 1.3 amps, while an i53 is the software limit, set a little lower at about 1.0 amp. The wash cycle stops, and you may hear the pump strain or hum first.
Common causes of i52 / i53
- Wash pump that is binding or overloaded
- Motor winding or its connector
- Debris inside the pump housing
- Motor control board output
1. Press Cancel and open the door. 2. Pull out the lower rack and clean the filter by hand, checking for broken glass or a bone. 3. Spin the lower spray arm to confirm it is not stuck. 4. Close the door and run a short cycle. If i52 or i53 returns, stop and call us.
- High current can come from a jam, a worn motor or a board output, and the display cannot separate them, so we test each.
- We inspect the pump for debris that the filter did not catch.
- We quote the repair first, and you decide before work begins.

What is the difference between i52 and i53?
Both mean high current at the wash pump. i52 is tripped by the hardware limit and i53 by the software limit, which is a bit lower, so i53 can show up first.
Could a dirty filter cause this?
A clogged filter alone rarely does, but debris that reaches the pump can drag on it. Cleaning the filter is a safe first step.
Is this expensive to fix?
It depends on whether the pump is jammed or the motor is worn. We tell you which it is and give you a written price before we start.
