What i5C / i5D means
On Electrolux ICON dishwashers such as the EI24ID50QS and EW24ID80QS, i5C and i5D both point to the drain pump drawing too much current. An i5C is the hardware limit, tripped at around 0.7 amps, while an i5D is the software limit, tripped when current goes above 0.55 amps. The dishwasher stops, and you may find water sitting in the bottom of the tub after the cycle.
Common causes of i5C / i5D
- Drain pump jammed or worn
- Clog in the drain hose or air gap
- Motor control board current sensing
- Drain pump wiring or connector
1. Stop the cycle with Cancel and look inside once the door opens. 2. Remove standing water by hand with a cup if there is any. 3. Clean the filter, and look in the sump for broken glass or olive pits. 4. Check the drain hose and the sink connection for a kink or clog, then try a short cycle. Call us if the code returns.
- High current may come from a blocked drain or a tired pump, and the code cannot tell us which, so we test both.
- We check what is downstream, such as the disposer connection and the hose.
- You approve a written price before work starts.
Other Dishwasher codes
Why are there two codes for the same pump?
The board watches current in two ways. i5C trips at the hardware limit and i5D at the software limit, so you may see either one.
My sink drains fine. Can it still be the dishwasher?
Yes. The pump or its hose inside the dishwasher can be blocked even when the sink works normally.
Is the water in the tub dirty?
It can be. Wear gloves when bailing it out, and watch for glass.
Still seeing i5C / i5D?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
