What F31 means
F31 shows on Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch ranges, both freestanding and slide-in, among them the EW30EF65GS, EW30ES65GS, EW30GS65GS, EI30EF55GS and EW30DF65GS, when the RTD oven temperature probe or its wiring reads as shorted. Owners know it as shorted probe. The control cannot trust the temperature it reads, so it stops the oven and displays the code. You will find that the oven will not preheat or hold a set temperature.
Common causes of F31
- Oven temperature probe (RTD)
- Probe wiring touching or pinched
- Oven control board
1. Allow the oven to cool all the way down. 2. Cut power to the range for half a minute and then turn it back on. 3. Run a brief bake at a low temperature to test it. 4. Should F31 show again, keep the oven off and call us.
- The short could be in the probe, its wiring or the control, so we compare the probe's reading with what it should be before replacing anything.
- We also look at the wiring path for damage.
- We quote the job in writing before ordering a probe, and we back our repair for 30 days.

How is F31 different from F30?
F30 reports an open probe circuit, while F31 reports a shorted one. They are two sides of the same check, and we test the same circuit for either.
Does a reset help with F31?
A reset may clear a passing glitch. If F31 comes back, the probe or its wiring still has to be checked, and we do that during the visit.
Should I repair an older range for this?
Usually, since a probe is a modest cost. You see the price in writing first, and we speak plainly if a larger repair would not pay off.
Still seeing F31?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
