What Heat Sensor Auto Fan-On means
Electrolux T-shape wall-mount hoods, such as the ECVW3062AS and ECVW3662AS, have a heat sensor that turns the vent fan on at medium speed when the temperature near the hood rises above 158 degrees Fahrenheit. If the fan was on low, it moves up to medium. You can raise it to high, but you cannot lower it or turn it off until the temperature drops. If your hood starts on its own, this is the sensor working as designed rather than a breakdown.
Common causes of Heat Sensor Auto Fan-On
- Heavy heat from the cooktop or oven below
- Grease buildup that holds heat near the hood
- Heat sensor that keeps reading high
1. Turn off the burners and any oven heat that is feeding the area. 2. Let the fan run until the area cools down, and it will go back to normal control. 3. Clean the grease filters so air moves freely. 4. If the fan still runs by itself in a cool kitchen, call us.
- In a hot kitchen this is normal. If it happens when everything is cool, we test the sensor reading and the control.
- We also check airflow and filters, because a clogged hood holds heat.

Why did my hood fan turn on by itself?
The heat sensor detected high temperature near the hood and started the fan on medium speed to protect it. It is a built-in safety feature, so it is not a malfunction.
Can I turn the fan off while it is hot?
Not until the temperature drops. You may raise the speed to high, but the control will not let you lower it or switch it off while the sensor still reads high heat.
When is this a real problem?
If the fan starts or stays on in a cool kitchen, the sensor or control may be misreading. We test it and explain what we find before any repair begins.
