What Hd / HO means

On Electrolux built-in dishwashers of the Durham platform, the ICON, EI24CD35, EI24ID30, EI24ID50, EW24ID70 and EW24ID80 models, Hd or HO is a normal heating message, not an error. The dishwasher is warming the water to the best temperature before it continues, and each degree of rise can take about a minute or two. On the older EWDW6505G and EIDW6305G dishwashers the same idea appears as HD flashing. If the water coming in is cold, the pause lasts longer, and the dishwasher simply waits.

No. It means the dishwasher is heating water and has paused until it reaches the right temperature. The dishwasher is simply waiting for the water to reach the right temperature, which is a normal part of a heated wash and not a problem.

Why does it take so long?

Colder inlet water takes longer to heat. In winter you may notice a longer pause. In winter the pipes bring colder water to the dishwasher, so the heating stage takes longer than it does in summer.
