What CHILD LOCK ON means

On Electrolux built-in microwave ovens in the 24, 27 and 30 inch trim sizes, and on the over-the-range microwaves, such as the EI24MO45IB and EI30MO45GS, CHILD LOCK ON appears when you touch a pad while the control panel is locked. The lock is a setting, not a failure. It was switched on with the user preference key, the number 1 and START, and the microwave ignores the pads until the lock is turned off.

How do I turn the lock off?

Press the user pref pad, then STOP/CLEAR. The message should go away and the pads should respond again. If you want it back on, user pref, 1 and START sets it.

Does the message mean the microwave is broken?

No. It is the microwave telling you the panel is locked on purpose. It only becomes a repair issue if the lock returns on its own or the pads do not respond.

Why does it show when I wipe the panel?

Touching a pad while locked brings up the message, so a cleaning cloth can trigger it. It is harmless, but it tells you the lock is still active.
