What Er 01 means
Er 01 on the Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch built-in dishwashers, the EWDW6505G and EIDW6305G, means the leak detector has found water under the tub. These are older models that are still in many homes, and we repair them, and say plainly when a repair is not worth it. The dishwasher stops so a leak cannot run on, and the display shows Er 01.
Common causes of Er 01
- Water in the base pan from a leaking hose or clamp
- Door gasket or tub seal leak
- Fill valve or pump seal weeping
- Leak detector triggered by old moisture
1. Switch the dishwasher off at its breaker and shut off the water supply under the sink. 2. Wipe up any water visible around the door and floor. 3. Do not run the dishwasher again until the leak is found. 4. Call us and tell us where you saw water.
- The code says water is present but not where it came from, so we trace the leak from the base pan back to its source.
- Dry-out can clear the code but not stop a leak, so we do not just reset it.
- We tell you the price in writing, and say plainly if an older dishwasher is not worth repairing.

Is it safe to run the dishwasher again?
We suggest not. If water is leaking, it can damage the floor and cabinets, so shut off the water and breaker until we check. A leaking dishwasher can soak the floor and the cabinet base quickly, so turning off the water and the breaker until we have looked is the careful choice.
Could it be a false alarm?
It can be if old moisture is left in the base. We still check, because a small leak can be hard to see. Spilled water from loading or a past leak can leave the base pan damp, and we confirm whether the leak is active or old.
Do I need to remove the dishwasher?
Often we can find the leak by pulling it forward slightly. We explain what is needed before we start. Pulling the dishwasher forward a little usually gives us access to the base and the hoses, and we tell you what is needed before we start.
