What i51 means
On Electrolux built-in dishwashers with the ICON control, including the EI24CD35, EI24ID30, EI24ID50, EW24ID70 and EW24ID80, i51 means the wash motor was seen running when the control had not switched it on. The message refers to an asynchronous wash motor, and the dishwasher also fills up to its level when it happens. You will usually see the code on the display along with a cycle that stops or never gets started properly.
Common causes of i51
- Wash motor drive circuit on the control
- Motor control board connection to the wash pump
- Wiring between the control and the wash motor
1. Press Cancel, open the door and look for standing water in the tub. 2. Make sure the dishwasher has power and the door latches firmly. 3. Close the door and start a short Rinse cycle. 4. If i51 comes back, write down when it appeared and call us. Do not run long cycles with the code showing.
- The code says the pump moved without a command, but not whether the board or the motor wiring caused it, so we test both ends.
- We watch the fill and the pump start during a cycle on site.
- You approve a written price before we start, and the work carries a 30-day warranty.

Why does the dishwasher fill when i51 shows?
The control fills the tub up to its level while it deals with a pump that started by itself. That is a protective response, so some water in the bottom is normal.
Is i51 the same as a motor that will not start?
No. i51 is the opposite situation, a pump running when it should be off. A motor that will not start shows a different i5 code.
Can I keep using the dishwasher?
We suggest you stop. A pump that starts without a command can run dry or overfill, so have us check it before the next full load.
Still seeing i51?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
