What F9 means
F9 on older Electrolux built-in wall ovens with the 4-code control points to the door lock system. The control may see a jammed or failed door motor, a latch motor switch that is not responding, a stuck relay or software condition in the control, or wiring that has gone bad. The display shows F9, and the door may stay locked or the oven may not run a clean cycle. These are older ovens that we repair, and we say plainly if a repair is not worth the cost.
Common causes of F9
- Door latch motor and its switch
- Wiring to the latch
- Oven control board or a stuck relay
1. Press CLEAR and see whether the code goes away. 2. Let the oven cool down fully with the door closed. 3. Do not force the door open if it is locked, because you could damage the latch. 4. If F9 comes back or the door stays locked, call us.
- F9 covers several conditions in the door lock circuit, so the code alone does not name the part.
- We check the latch motor, its switch and the wiring before we look at the control.
- We give you the quote in writing before the latch or control is touched, and we are frank if the oven is too old to be worth the repair.

Why is my oven door locked with F9?
The control could not confirm the latch position, so it holds the door where it is. We check the latch motor and switch. If the latch has not moved, pulling on the door will not open it.
Can I pry the door open?
Please do not. Forcing it can bend the latch and make a small repair into a larger one. Let us look at it. A latch repair is usually modest, while a bent latch adds cost.
Is F9 related to self-clean?
The door lock is used during self-clean, so the code may show up then. It can also appear at other times when the latch does not respond.
