What E 36 means
E 36 appears on Electrolux ICON 36-inch induction cooktops such as the E36IC75FSS when the user interface board loses communication with the filter board. The touch panel is where you pick zones and power levels, and the filter board is the power-conditioning board behind the glass. If they cannot talk, the control cannot safely command the zones, so heating is blocked and the number is displayed.
Common causes of E 36
- Cable between the touch panel and filter board
- Touch panel board communication
- Filter board communication circuit
- Moisture or spill residue near the connections
1. Turn off all zones and wipe any spill from around the touch controls with a dry cloth. 2. Restart the cooktop by turning its power supply off and on. 3. Check whether the touch controls respond normally afterward. 4. If E 36 comes back, tell us whether the panel felt sticky or wet before the error.
- Wiping and a restart cannot show whether the link between the boards is broken, so we test the cable and both connections.
- Spill damage can look like a board failure, so we check for residue before we replace anything.
- We tell you the price in writing before the repair starts.

Can a spill cause E 36?
It can, if liquid reaches the connections under the glass. Please tell us if something boiled over before the error appeared. Moisture creeping under the glass edge can disturb the link between the panel and the filter board, so a recent boil-over is worth mentioning.
Is the glass cracked?
Not necessarily. This number is about communication between boards, not the glass surface, though we look at the glass during the visit. The glass and the electronics under it are tested separately, and a cracked surface would be obvious as a different problem.
Why do the touch controls sometimes act strange first?
A weak link between the boards can make the panel respond slowly or erratically before the error shows, so that is a useful clue. Slow touch response, missed taps and a flickering display are all worth mentioning, because they often come before the error.
