What E2 means
The Electrolux EILFU17GS and EILFU21GS upright all-freezers use an E2 alternating with the temperature to show a stuck key error. The control believes one of the membrane keys on the user interface is being held down, even though no one is touching it. The freezer is not necessarily warm, and it may keep cooling, but the alarm sounds and the control may not respond to your presses. The mute button silences the sound, and that is all it does.
Common causes of E2
- Membrane key that is stuck or worn
- Moisture or residue around the keypad
- User interface board
1. Press the mute button to stop the alarm. 2. Wipe the control panel with a dry or barely damp cloth, away from the key edges. 3. Press each key once and notice if any feels stuck or does not spring back. 4. Check the temperature shown on the display. If E2 stays on, call us for service.
- The code says a key reads as held down, not whether the membrane or the interface board is behind it, so we test the keypad.
- We look for moisture or wear that could be holding a key closed.
- You get a written price before work begins, and on an older freezer we say plainly if a new panel is not worth it.
Other Freezer codes
Why does my freezer say a key is stuck when I am not touching it?
The membrane keys wear, and moisture or residue can make one read as pressed all the time. The control then reports E2 and sounds the alarm.
Will the freezer keep cooling?
Often it does, because the cooling system is separate from the keypad. Check the temperature on the display, and call us if it starts to rise.
Can I clean the keypad with spray?
We would not. Liquid can run under the keys and cause the problem. A dry cloth is safer, and we can handle a worn panel for you.
Still unsure about E2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
