What 15 means
On Electrolux Wave-Touch induction built-in slide-in ranges, such as the EW30IS65JS and EW30IS6CJS, code 15 on the cooktop means the surface control, called the ESEC, failed its self-test. The test looks at the wiring harness and the board that connects to the cooktop touch controls. If the oven shows F15 at the same time, the safety thermostat in the front console has opened. The cooktop may not heat while the code is showing.
Common causes of 15
- Wiring harness between the surface control and its user interface board
- ESEC user interface board
- Front console safety thermostat if F15 also shows
1. Note whether the oven shows F15 at the same time and tell us. 2. Make sure nothing is blocking the vents at the front of the range. 3. Cut power to the range at the panel for half a minute and then restore it. 4. If 15 returns, stop using the cooktop and call us.
- The self-test fails for more than one reason, so we trace the harness first and the board after that.
- If the console safety thermostat opened, we look for a cooling problem that caused it.
- Before a board is ordered, we give you the price in writing, and we tell you if the range is not worth the cost.
Other Range codes
What does it mean when F15 shows with code 15?
It means the safety thermostat in the front console opened, which usually points to heat in the console. We check the cooling fan and airflow, as well as the control.
Is it safe to keep cooking?
We would not. A failed self-test means the surface control cannot confirm itself, so it is better to leave the range off until we have checked it.
Can this be repaired on an older range?
Often yes. We start with the harness, which is the most economical item, and tell you plainly if a board is needed and whether it is worth the cost.
Still seeing 15?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
