What E1 means
E1 is a service-menu code on the Electrolux ICON and IQ under-counter ice makers, models such as the EI15IM55GS, E15IM60GSS and E15IM60GPS. It means thermistor 1, a temperature sensor, reads as an open circuit, as though its wire were cut. You do not normally see E1 on the display. The owner sees ER, and E1 shows up when we read the error log in service mode. The unit stops making ice while the sensor problem remains.
Common causes of E1
- Thermistor 1 itself
- Thermistor wire or connector
- Control board input that reads the sensor
1. Note that the display shows ER and that the unit has stopped making ice. 2. Make sure the unit is plugged in and the door is fully closed. 3. Do not try to open the cabinet or touch the sensors. 4. Call us and mention that the display shows ER.
- An open sensor can be a failed part or a loose connector, and the code cannot tell which, so we test the sensor and its wiring.
- We read the error log to see whether other sensors are listed too.
- We quote the repair in writing before starting, with a 30-day warranty on the work.
Other Ice Maker codes
Why does my ice maker show ER and not E1?
E codes are stored in the service menu. The display shows ER when a sensor circuit has a problem, and the exact code, such as E1, is read in service mode by a technician.
Does open mean the sensor is dead?
It means the control sees a broken circuit. That can be the sensor, a wire or a connector, so we test each of them before we replace anything or quote you a price.
Can I keep using the unit?
The unit stops making ice on its own while the sensor problem exists. Leave it that way, and use any ice already in the bin until we have checked the sensor.
Still seeing E1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
