What E9 means

The E9 code is the fourth in the line of thermistor codes on the Electrolux ICON and IQ under-counter ice makers, models such as the EI15IM55GS, E15IM60GSS and E15IM60GPS. It says the control found thermistor 4 open or shorted and cannot read a temperature from it. It sits in the service menu, so owners see ER and a unit that has stopped making ice instead.

Common causes of E9

  • Thermistor 4
  • Thermistor 4 wire or connector
  • Board input for thermistor 4
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Note that the display shows ER and the unit has stopped making ice. 2. Check that the unit is plugged in and the door is closed. 3. Check that no tool or ice is jammed in the door opening. 4. Do not open the cabinet or handle the sensors, then call us and mention ER.

! Why to stop there
  • A sensor circuit that reads open or shorted could be the sensor, a wire or the board, so we test them one by one.
  • We read the error log for other codes.
  • We give a written price before work, and we stand behind it for 30 days.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
E9E9 questions
Is E9 more serious than E7 or E8?

No. They are the same kind of problem on different sensors. The effect is the same, which is that the unit stops making ice until the sensor circuit is repaired.

Does a stopped unit melt the stored ice?

The bin does not stay cold once the unit stops, so ice may melt over time. Use the ice you have, and let us repair the unit as soon as it suits you.

Can I replace the sensor myself?

We would not. It sits inside the cabinet near the wiring, and the cause may not be the sensor at all. We test first, then tell you the written price.
