What E 71 means
E 71 on an Electrolux ICON 36-inch induction cooktop, such as the E36IC75FSS, means the generator is not staying in step with the rest of the electronics. The generator creates the fast-switching power for the induction coils, and it has to match the control's timing. When that match slips, the control blocks heating and shows E 71. It is the same kind of condition as E 31, reported by a different module on the cooktop.
Common causes of E 71
- Generator board timing signal
- Connector between the generator board and control
- Filter board output feeding the generator
- Heat-aged solder joint on a board
1. Make sure every zone is off, then wait for the glass to cool. 2. Restart the cooktop at its power supply, off first and then on. 3. Start one zone with a pan that fits the ring. 4. If E 71 returns, note the pan and zone you used and call us.
- A restart can clear a single timing slip, but it does not show whether a board is slowly failing, so we run the zones under load and watch for it to repeat.
- We check the harness plugs for looseness, since a poor connection can cause a timing signal to drop.
- If a board needs replacing, we price it first and tell you if the cooktop's age changes the choice.

Is E 71 the same as E 31?
They describe the same sync problem, shown by different modules. We handle both the same way when we test. E 31 and E 71 show the same sync condition from different modules, so we treat them as one family when we run our tests.
Why did it work again after I switched the power off?
A restart can reset the timing for a while. When the cause is a failing board or loose plug, the error usually returns. The timing circuit can recover after a restart, but a board that is slowly wearing out will slip again, often at a busy moment.
Should I keep trying zones?
We suggest leaving it alone once E 71 returns. Repeated restarts do not help and add wear. Each restart gives the electronics another chance to fail, so waiting for our visit is easier on the cooktop than trying again and again.
