What E 76 / E 77 means
On the Electrolux ICON 36-inch induction cooktop, including the E36IC75FSS, E 76 and E 77 are reported as a communication error or a heat sink sensor break. We treat the two numbers as one family, because both mean a part inside the cooktop is not reporting back to the control. The control blocks heating on the affected zones and displays the number. We cannot tell from the number alone which of the two it is.
Common causes of E 76 / E 77
- Communication link between boards
- Heat sink temperature sensor and its wire
- Connector at the affected board
- Board reading the sensor
1. Turn off all zones and let the cooktop cool. 2. Make sure the space under the cooktop is clear for airflow. 3. Reset the cooktop by cycling its power supply off and on. 4. If either number comes back, write it down and call us.
- The number does not separate a communication drop from a sensor problem, so we test both the board link and the heat sink sensor.
- We start with the connectors, because they are the quickest to check and often explain a message that comes and goes.
- If only a sensor is needed, we say so, and you are not quoted for a board.
Other Cooktop codes
Why are two different causes given for one code?
The cooktop uses the same display for both kinds of loss of signal. We tell them apart by testing, not by the number. A communication loss and a heat sink sensor loss both leave the control without information, so it shows the same pair of numbers for each.
Can I tell which one it is?
Not from the glass. Please tell us what you saw and when, and we run the right tests. Nothing on the glass separates the two causes, but your notes on when it appeared and what was cooking help us narrow the tests.
Do E 76 and E 77 need different repairs?
Sometimes. A sensor fix is usually smaller than a board repair, and we say which one it is before any work is approved. A sensor is usually a smaller part and a smaller bill than a board, and you decide after we have shown you what we found.
