What E3 means
On Electrolux ICON and IQ under-counter ice makers, such as the EI15IM55GS, E15IM60GSS and E15IM60GPS, E3 is logged when the door has been open for longer than 20 minutes. It is recorded in the service menu, so owners usually see the unit stop and show ER or a door alarm instead. An E3 may simply be a door left ajar, but a door switch or latch that reads open when it is shut will log the same code.
Common causes of E3
- Door left open or not latched
- Door switch or its wiring
- Door seal or hinge that holds the door off
1. Close the door firmly and check that nothing, such as a scoop or ice, is in the way. 2. Look at the door seal for anything stuck in it. 3. Watch whether the unit starts making ice again. 4. If E3 or ER returns, call us.
- A door switch that reads open looks the same as an open door, so we test the switch and the latch.
- We check that the door lines up and seals.
- You get a written price before work, and we tell you plainly if repair is not needed.
Other Ice Maker codes
Is E3 a sign of a failure?
Not always. It records a door left open for more than 20 minutes. If the door is closed and E3 returns anyway, a door switch or latch becomes the more likely cause.
Is the ice safe after the door was open?
Ice that melted and refroze can clump together or taste stale. We suggest you empty the bin and let fresh ice form once the door is closed properly.
How does E3 differ from E10?
E3 is the main door left open past 20 minutes, while E10 is the same condition for door number 2, the drawer. Each has its own switch that we may need to test.
Still unsure about E3?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
