What E42 means
Electrolux front-load dryers such as the EIED55HIW, EWED65HSS and ELFE7637AT show E42 when the control does not see the door as closed. The current owner guide reads it as Door Open. On the older Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch models the service chart calls it a door sensing failure, which points to the electronic control rather than the latch. The dryer will not start or stops quickly.
Common causes of E42
- Door not fully closed or blocked
- Door switch or latch
- Door sensing on the control board
1. Open the door and check that no clothing is caught in the opening. 2. Close it firmly until it latches. 3. Press Start again. 4. If E42 keeps showing with the door shut, call us.
- With the door closed, E42 may come from the door switch or the control that reads it, so we test both.
- We check that the door aligns and latches properly.
- We say plainly when a repair is not worth it on an older dryer, and we give you a written price first.
Other Dryer codes
Why does my dryer say the door is open?
The control does not see the door switch closed. A blocked door is the easy case. If the door is clear, the switch or board reading it needs a test.
Can I bypass the switch?
No. The door switch is a safety device, and the dryer should not run without it.
Is it a new or older dryer problem?
Both. On older Wave-Touch dryers the chart points to the control board, so we check that early.
Still seeing E42?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
