What EF8 means

An EF8 is the key stuck message on Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch front-load dryers, models like the EIED55HIW, EIGD55HIW, EWED65HSS and EWMED65HIW. The control believes one of the console buttons is being held down. The cause may be a button that is physically jammed, a damaged console, or the interface board. You may see the code at start-up or find that the dryer ignores your presses. It is an older dryer that we repair.

1. Unplug the dryer for a minute. 2. Wipe the control panel with a dry or barely damp cloth, and keep liquid away from the edges of the buttons. 3. Press each button once and look for any that feels stuck or does not spring back. 4. Plug the dryer back in. If EF8 shows again, call us.

Why does my dryer seem to press buttons by itself?

When a button sticks or the console wears out, the control reads a press that is not happening. That is what EF8 reports, and it is why the display can act strangely before the code appears.

Can spilled liquid cause EF8?

Yes, moisture under the buttons can short them. Keep the panel dry, unplug the dryer, and let us look at it rather than using it wet.

Is EF8 serious?

It is mostly a nuisance because the code does not point to a heat or electrical safety problem. Even so, the dryer will not run properly until the stuck key is cleared, so do not ignore it.
