Electrolux Dryer Codes E71 and E72: Outlet Temperature Sensor
E71 and E72 concern the outlet control thermistor on Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch dryers such as the EIED55HIW, EIGD55HIW, EWED65HSS and EWMED65HIW. This sensor tells the dryer how hot the exhaust air is. An E71 means…

What E71 / E72 means
E71 and E72 concern the outlet control thermistor on Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch dryers such as the EIED55HIW, EIGD55HIW, EWED65HSS and EWMED65HIW. This sensor tells the dryer how hot the exhaust air is. An E71 means its circuit is open, and an E72 means it is shorted. The dryer cannot regulate heat and may stop or run poorly. These are older dryers still in many homes.
Common causes of E71 / E72
- Outlet thermistor
- Thermistor wiring or connector
- Control board input
1. Clean the lint screen and wipe lint from the area around the exhaust. 2. Check the vent for blockage. 3. Run a short timed cycle. 4. If E71 or E72 returns, call us.
- The thermistor's resistance should fall in a set range at room temperature, and we measure it to see.
- We check the wiring before blaming the sensor.
- We say plainly when a repair is not worth it on an older dryer.

What is the difference between E71 and E72?
E71 is an open circuit and E72 is a short circuit. In both cases the dryer cannot read exhaust temperature.
Can lint cause this?
Lint can foul a sensor, but a true open or short is usually an electrical problem.
Will the dryer still tumble?
It may, but heat control is lost, so we suggest waiting for service.
