What EA5 means
The EA5 code appears on Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch front-load dryers such as the EIED55HIW, EIGD55HIW, EWED65HSS and EWMED65HIW. It is the main voltage sensing message, and it points to the control board's own circuit that measures the incoming power. Unlike EA2 or EA3, it does not say the voltage is high or low, only that the board cannot read it correctly. The dryer stops and will not start a cycle. Dryers of this generation are well over a decade old, yet many are still in daily use around Houston.
Common causes of EA5
- Main control board voltage sensing circuit
- Power connections feeding the board
- Supply voltage at the outlet
1. Press Stop and unplug the dryer for a minute. 2. Check that both halves of the dryer breaker are fully on. 3. Plug the dryer in and start a short cycle. 4. If EA5 comes back right away, stop there and call us. Leave the cabinet closed, since the board is not something to inspect yourself.
- The code points to the board's sensing circuit, but a poor connection or supply can look the same, so we rule those out first.
- We test the supply and the connections going into the control before we call the board the cause.
- A board is a major repair on a dryer this old, so we put the price in writing and give you our honest opinion before you commit.
Other Dryer codes
Is EA5 the same as EA2 or EA3?
No. EA2 and EA3 say the voltage is too high or too low. EA5 says the board's voltage sensing itself is not working, so the cause is usually on the board side.
Will a power surge cause it?
A surge can stress a control board, but we cannot tell that from the code alone. We check the supply and the board before we say what happened.
Should I replace the dryer instead?
It depends on the age and what we find. We give you a written price for the repair, and we tell you honestly when replacing the dryer is the better choice.
Still seeing EA5?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
