What E65 means
An E65 on the Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch dryers EIED55HIW and EWED65HSS says the high limit thermostat has tripped more times than allowed. The chart lists three possibilities: heavy restriction in the vent, a high limit thermostat that is defective, or, on electric dryers only, a tripped inlet thermal limiter. The dryer is running too hot and cuts the heat. It is an older model still in many homes.
Common causes of E65
- Vent restriction
- Inlet thermal limiter tripped (electric)
- High limit thermostat
- Lint buildup inside the dryer
1. Empty the lint screen.n2. Pull the dryer forward carefully and look at the vent hose for kinks or lint.n3. Check the outside vent hood for a stuck flap.n4. Run one short timed cycle and stop if E65 comes back, then call us.
- The order we follow is the inlet thermal limiter, then the vent system, then the high limit thermostat.
- We look for signs of heat damage at the limiter.
- We say plainly when a repair is not worth it on an older dryer, and you approve the price first.
Other Dryer codes
Is a blocked vent the usual cause?
It is a leading one. When air cannot leave, the dryer overheats and trips its limits.
Can I reset the limiter myself?
No. A tripped thermal limiter has to be replaced, and that means opening the dryer.
Why does E65 matter?
Repeated overheating is a fire risk. Please do not keep running a dryer that shows this code.
Still seeing E65?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
