What EF3 means
EF3 is the maximum timeout timer message on the front-load Electrolux dryers that use the Wave-Touch or IQ-Touch control, among them the EIED55HIW, EIGD55HIW, EWED65HSS and EWMED65HIW. The dryer ran for its longest allowed time without the load reaching the point the control expected, so it stopped. The usual reason is blocked exhaust, but a worn temperature sensor, the contact moisture sensor or the control board can also cause it. You will find clothes still damp when the dryer stops, and this older model is one we still repair.
Common causes of EF3
- Restricted exhaust duct or vent hood
- Exhaust or inlet thermistor
- Contact moisture sensor in the drum
- Control board
1. Press Stop and let the dryer cool. 2. Clean the lint filter, then wipe the metal sensor strips inside the drum with a damp cloth. 3. Check the exhaust tube behind the dryer for kinks. 4. Look at the vent hood outside and clear any lint. 5. Run a small test load. If EF3 shows again, call us.
- A restricted vent and a weak sensor produce the same long cycle, so we measure airflow and test the sensors separately.
- We check the thermistor and contact sensor readings against what they should be.
- The written price comes first, and if a dryer this age is not worth the repair, we say that before you spend anything.
Other Dryer codes
What does max timeout mean?
The dryer has a limit on how long it will keep drying one load. When it reaches that limit without the control seeing what it expects, it stops and shows EF3.
Is it just a clogged vent?
Often, yes. Because several parts can stretch a cycle the same way, we check the vent and then the sensors, so you never pay for a part you did not need.
Can I keep drying with the code showing?
We would not. Running repeated long cycles on a blocked or misreading dryer wastes energy, leaves clothes damp and puts extra heat stress on the dryer, so it is better to stop and have it checked.
Still seeing EF3?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
