What EF1 means
EF1 is the vent blocked message on Electrolux front-load dryers. It shows on the Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch dryers, such as the EIED55HIW, EIGD55HIW, EWED65HSS and EWMED65HIW, and in the current owner guide for newer dryers such as the ELFE7637AT. It means the dryer is seeing a heavy restriction in its exhaust, and clothes may come out damp or very hot. A blocked vent is a common installation issue. The code can also come from a temperature thermistor or the control board.
Common causes of EF1
- Lint-packed or crushed exhaust duct
- Blocked vent hood outside the house
- Exhaust or inlet temperature thermistor
- Control board reading the sensors
1. Press Stop and let the dryer cool. 2. Clean the lint filter. 3. Pull the dryer out carefully and check the exhaust tube for bends, kinks or crushing. 4. Go outside and make sure the vent exit is clear and its flap opens freely. 5. Clear any lint you can reach. If the vent was installed with sharp bends, call your installer, then try a cycle.
- Clean vents do not always clear EF1, because a thermistor or the board can report a restriction that is not there, so we test the sensors too.
- We check airflow through the duct, not just the filter.
- We tell you the price in writing before any work and cover the repair for 30 days.
Other Dryer codes
Why does EF1 keep returning after I cleaned the filter?
The filter is only the first part of the path. The long duct and the outside hood collect lint as well, and a long or bent run can restrict airflow even when it looks clean from the dryer.
Is a blocked vent dangerous?
Yes, a restricted dryer vent holds heat and lint, so it is worth fixing promptly. The dryer shows EF1 partly to protect itself from overheating.
Does my older Electrolux dryer need a new vent?
Not always. We check the existing duct, how long it is and how many turns it takes, then tell you what would actually help, and you decide what to do.
Still seeing EF1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
