What E31 / E32 means
E31 and E32 appear on Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch front-load dryers such as the EIED55HIW, EIGD55HIW, EWED65HSS and EWMED65HIW. They report the contact sensor frequency, the signal the dryer uses to tell how damp your clothes are. An E31 means the frequency reads too high, and an E32 means it reads too low. These are older dryers still found in many homes, and we repair them.
Common causes of E31 / E32
- Foreign object touching the sensor
- Contact sensor wiring
- Contact sensor itself
- Control board
1. Open the door and look at the metal sensor bars inside the drum front. 2. Check for coins, a pen or anything wedged near them. 3. Wipe the bars with a soft damp cloth when the dryer is cool. 4. Run a short timed cycle. If E31 or E32 returns, call us.
- A wrong frequency may come from the sensor, its wiring or the control board, so we test them in order.
- We confirm there is nothing interfering with the sensor.
- We tell you the price in writing, and we say plainly when the repair is not worth it for an older dryer.
Other Dryer codes
What does the contact sensor do?
It senses how damp the clothes are by touching them as they tumble, so the dryer can stop at the right time.
Is E31 different from E32?
E31 means the signal read too high and E32 means it read too low. We check the same set of parts for both.
Can I still dry clothes?
A timed cycle may work if the sensor is the problem. Auto cycles may behave oddly or stop early.
Still seeing E31 / E32?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
