What E2 means
The E2 code on Electrolux ICON and IQ under-counter ice makers, including the EI15IM55GS, E15IM60GSS and E15IM60GPS, says thermistor 1 reads as shorted, the opposite of the open circuit that E1 reports. The control sees the sensor wires as joined together, so it cannot get a real temperature. It is a service-menu code, and what you see on the display is ER. The unit stops making ice until the reading is corrected.
Common causes of E2
- Thermistor 1
- Pinched or wet sensor wiring
- Board input for thermistor 1
1. Check that the display shows ER and that the unit is not making ice. 2. Make sure the unit is plugged in and the door is closed. 3. Do not move the unit or open the cabinet to look at wires. 4. Call us and tell us the display shows ER.
- A shorted reading can come from the sensor, a pinched wire or moisture, and the code cannot separate them, so we test each.
- We read the error log for other sensor codes.
- We quote in writing first, and you decide before the work begins.
Other Ice Maker codes
What is the difference between E1 and E2?
E1 means thermistor 1 reads as open, like a broken wire. E2 means it reads as shorted, like two wires touching. Both point to the same sensor circuit, and both stop the ice.
Why do I only see ER?
The display shows ER for a sensor outage, and the exact E number is read in service mode. So ER on the panel is how E2 shows itself to the owner.
Could water cause E2?
Moisture near a sensor connector can create a short, so we look at the wiring for damp spots along with the sensor itself before we decide what to repair.
Still seeing E2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
