What E38 means
E38 on Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch front-load washers in the EWFLW65H and EIFLW55H series, such as the EWFLW65HIW and EIFLW55HMB, means the air trap is clogged. The air trap is the small passage that carries tub pressure to the water level sensor. When it is blocked, the washer cannot judge how much water is in the tub. We know this chart from the 2008 to 2010 washers. Later models may share it.
Common causes of E38
- Lint, soap residue or a clog in the air trap
- The hose between the trap and the pressure sensor
- The pressure sensor
1. Run the washer without clothes and see whether E38 comes back. 2. Use the right amount of detergent, which helps keep residue down. 3. Leave the cabinet panels on. 4. If E38 comes back, leave it to us.
- A clog that builds up again tells us why the air trap is filling, not only that it is blocked.
- We check the sensor after the trap is clear.
Other Washer codes
What is an air trap in my washer?
It is the small passage that carries tub pressure to the sensor, so the washer can tell the water level. When it clogs, the water level reading becomes unreliable.
Why did my air trap clog?
Lint and soap residue are common causes, and too much detergent makes it worse. Using the right amount helps, although we can only confirm the clog by checking.
Can I clear the air trap myself?
It needs panels removed, so we do that for you. Do not open the back of the washer yourself, because it sits near live parts and water.
