What EF1 means
EF1 means the drain pump is clogged on front-load Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch washers such as the EWFLW65HSS and EIFLW55HMB. The washer is trying to empty the tub and cannot move the water out. You will see EF1 on the display, and the drum may still hold water or the cycle may stall at the drain step. Many Houston homes still have an older machine like this one, and we repair it or tell you honestly when it is time for a new one.
Common causes of EF1
- Lint, coins, socks or small items in the drain pump
- A kinked or blocked drain hose
- A clogged standpipe or house drain
- The drain pump itself, if the blockage is cleared
1. Turn the washer off and check that the drain hose behind it is not kinked or crushed. 2. Make sure the hose is not pushed too far down the standpipe. 3. Look for items that may have come out of pockets. 4. If EF1 returns or water stays in the drum, stop and call us.
- A clog is a condition and not a failed part, so we find where the water stops before we change anything.
- We clear the drain path and test the pump afterward.
- Our price is written down and agreed first, and the work is covered by a 30-day warranty.

Is there water that I can see?
There may be water left in the drum. Be careful when you open the door, since it can run out onto the floor. Towels and a shallow pan help, and we can drain it for you on the visit.
Can I clear the pump myself?
The pump filter location varies, and the owner steps in your manual are the safest guide. If you are not sure, call us rather than taking things apart, especially with water still in the drum.
Does EF1 mean I need a new pump?
Not usually. Most of the time something is blocking the pump or the hose. We clear the path first and test the pump afterward, so a new pump is only quoted if it is really needed.
Still seeing EF1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
