What EF5 means
EF5 means incorrect water temperature on Electrolux front-loaders, both Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch such as the EWFLW65HSS and EIFLW55HMB. The water that came in is not the temperature the washer asked for, which often happens when the hot and cold hoses are swapped, or when the hot supply at the house is no hotter than the cold. You will see EF5 on the display, and the cycle may stop. These are older washers that many Houston homes still use, and we will tell you if a repair is not worth it.
Common causes of EF5
- Hot and cold hoses connected to the wrong inlets
- A house hot water supply that is not actually hot
- A closed or partly closed supply valve
- The washer's inlet valve or temperature sensing
1. Turn off the water and look at how the hoses are connected. Hot belongs on the hot inlet, cold on the cold inlet. 2. Swap the hoses if they are reversed. 3. Run a kitchen tap on hot to confirm the house hot supply really gets hot. 4. If EF5 appears again after that, call us.
- Wrong hose connections and weak hot water are the usual reasons, so we check both before testing the washer.
- If those are fine, we test the sensor and the inlet valves.
- A repair, if needed, starts with a price in writing, and our work is warranted for 30 days.
Other Washer codes
How do I know which hose is hot?
Hoses are usually marked or color coded, red for hot and blue for cold. If they are not, turn on a faucet at the house and feel which supply valve is warm, then match the hose to the inlet.
Can a water heater problem cause EF5?
Yes. If the house hot water is not actually hot, the washer may decide the temperature is wrong. Run a kitchen tap on hot to check that first, before you call us for the washer.
Will EF5 damage my clothes?
It can leave a wash at the wrong temperature, so check the care labels on anything delicate. Swapping the hoses back to the correct inlets prevents that, and it takes only a few minutes.
