What E52 means
E52 on Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch front-load washers in the EWFLW65H and EIFLW55H series, such as the EWFLW65HIW and EIFLW55HMB, means a bad signal from the tachogenerator, which is the part of the motor that reports its speed. The control cannot tell how fast the drum is turning. The washer stops or will not spin. We know this entry from the 2008 to 2010 washers. Later models may share it.
Common causes of E52
- The motor speed signal or its wiring
- The motor control board
- The motor
1. Unplug the washer briefly and plug it back in. 2. Make sure the drum turns freely by hand with the washer unplugged and empty. 3. Keep the back panel closed. 4. If E52 comes back, stop the washer and call us.
- Speed signal problems can come from the motor, the wiring or the motor control, so we test in that order.
- We check the connections before replacing a part.

What is a tachogenerator?
It is a part of the motor that reports how fast the motor turns. The control uses that signal to run the drum at the right speed.
Does E52 mean my motor is dead?
Not necessarily. The wiring or the motor control board may be the cause, and we test those along with the motor before we say a new motor is needed.
Can I keep using the washer with E52?
We would not. The control cannot judge the drum speed, and the washer may stop or refuse to spin until the speed signal has been repaired.
