What E61 means
E61 on Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch dryers such as the EIED55HIW, EIGD55HIW, EWED65HSS and EWMED65HIW reports a Heater Relay failure. One or more of the heater relays on the board, labeled RL5, RL6 and RL7, is stuck open or stuck closed, or the wiring is defective. The dryer might tumble without heating, or it might heat when it should not. These are older dryers still in many homes.
Common causes of E61
- Heater relay on the control board
- Heater wiring
- Heating element circuit
1. Stop the cycle and open the door. 2. Check that the lint screen is clean and the vent is not crushed. 3. Feel whether the clothes warm up on a short timed cycle. 4. If E61 returns or the dryer heats unexpectedly, stop and call us.
- A stuck relay can leave the heater on or off, so we test the relays and the heater circuit.
- We look for burned wire ends at the connections.
- We say plainly when a repair is not worth it on an older dryer, and you approve a written price first.

Can E61 make the dryer overheat?
If a relay is stuck closed, the heater could stay on. That is why we do not suggest running it repeatedly.
Why would there be no heat?
A relay stuck open stops power reaching the heater. The tumbling still works.
Is a board replacement always needed?
Not always. If the wiring is the problem, it is a smaller repair. We test before quoting.
