What E63 means
E63 shows on electric Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch dryers, including the EIED55HIW and EWED65HSS, and it reports a heater to earth ground condition. The heating element or a wire leading to it is making contact with the metal cabinet. Because that is an electrical safety matter, the control shuts the dryer down. This is an older model still in many homes, and we repair it.
Common causes of E63
- Heating element touching the cabinet
- Damaged heater wiring
- Heater connection terminals
1. Stop using the dryer and switch it off at the breaker.n2. Look at the lint screen and the vent to be sure airflow was not restricted.n3. Leave the cabinet closed and do not test the dryer again.n4. Call us and tell us the code.
- A short to ground can be the element or a wire rubbing the cabinet, and we find the exact spot with a test.
- We examine the heater area for burn marks.
- We say plainly when a repair is not worth it on an older dryer, and you see a written price first.
Other Dryer codes
Is E63 dangerous?
It can be. A heater touching the cabinet is an electrical hazard, which is why we advise leaving the dryer off until it is checked.
Does this apply to gas dryers?
The chart lists it for electric models. A gas dryer would show a different pattern.
Is a new element the only fix?
Sometimes a damaged wire is the only problem. We test before we quote.
