What E73 / E74 means
E73 and E74 point to the inlet control thermistor on Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch dryers such as the EIED55HIW, EIGD55HIW, EWED65HSS and EWMED65HIW. This sensor reads the temperature of the air entering the drum. E73 means an open circuit. E74 is read as a short circuit on the inlet thermistor, based on an earlier look at the data sheet, so we confirm it by testing. These older dryers are still in many homes.
Common causes of E73 / E74
- Inlet thermistor
- Thermistor wiring or connector
- Control board input
1. Clean the lint screen. 2. Check the vent for blockage or a crushed hose. 3. Run a short timed cycle. 4. If E73 or E74 appears again, phone us and tell us the code on the display.
- We confirm which of the two codes you have by testing the sensor circuit, since open and short look different on a meter.
- We check wiring and connectors before replacing the sensor.
- We say plainly when a repair is not worth it, and you see the price in writing first.
Other Dryer codes
What does the inlet thermistor do?
It reads the air temperature coming into the drum so the control can keep it in range.
How do you know E74 is a short?
The data sheet we have reads it that way, but we confirm with a test rather than assume.
Is it a quick repair?
Often. A sensor or wire is a small part, but we diagnose first.
Still seeing E73 / E74?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
