What EA5 / EAE means

EA5 is a main voltage sensing problem and EAE is a line safety relay sensing problem on Electrolux front-load washers, the Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch type like the EWFLW65HIW and EIFLW55HIW. In plain terms, the control cannot read the incoming power or confirm that its safety relay switched as expected. The display shows EA5 or EAE and the washer stops. Older machines like these are still common in Houston, and we say plainly if a repair is not the best use of your money.

Common causes of EA5 / EAE

  • The power supply at the outlet
  • The wiring and cord between the outlet and the washer
  • The line safety relay on the main control board
  • The voltage sensing circuit on the board
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch the washer off and plug it directly into a wall outlet, with no extension cord or power strip. 2. Check the cord and plug for damage or a loose fit. 3. Run one short cycle. 4. If EA5 or EAE appears again, leave the washer off and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • The code may come from the supply or from the board that senses it, so the incoming power is measured first.
  • If the supply is normal, we move on to the main control board and its relay.
  • You approve the price in writing before we begin, and a 30-day warranty stands behind our workmanship.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
EA5 / EAEEA5 / EAE questions
How does EAE differ from EA5?

EA5 is a problem reading the main voltage, while EAE concerns the line safety relay. Both lead us to the power supply first and then to the main control board if the supply is normal.

Might my outlet be behind this?

Yes, a worn outlet or loose plug can upset the reading. We check the outlet and cord before suspecting the washer's own electronics, so you do not pay for a board you may not need.

Can I keep trying?

One restart on a direct outlet is fine. When the code returns, leave the washer off and let us test the power circuit properly, so a bad outlet or a bad board is not guessed at.
