What E42 means

Electrolux front-load dryers such as the EIED55HIW, EWED65HSS and ELFE7637AT show E42 when the control does not see the door as closed. The current owner guide reads it as Door Open. On the older Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch models the service chart calls it a door sensing failure, which points to the electronic control rather than the latch. The dryer will not start or stops quickly.

Why does my dryer say the door is open?

The control does not see the door switch closed. A blocked door is the easy case. If the door is clear, the switch or board reading it needs a test.

Can I bypass the switch?

No. The door switch is a safety device, and the dryer should not run without it.

Is it a new or older dryer problem?

Both. On older Wave-Touch dryers the chart points to the control board, so we check that early.
