What E58 means

E58 appears on Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch front-loaders from Electrolux such as the EWFLW65HIW and EIFLW55HIW. It means the control sensed too much current on the drive motor circuit. You will see E58 on the display, and the washer may stop in the middle of a cycle or refuse to spin the drum. Machines from this generation are still running in plenty of Houston homes, and we will tell you straight if fixing one stops making sense.

Common causes of E58

Anything that makes the drum hard to turn, such as a heavy or unbalanced load
The drive motor and its wiring
The motor control board that powers the motor

✓ One safe check you can try

1. Stop the cycle and wait for the door to unlock. 2. Take out a few of the heaviest wet items so the load is lighter. 3. With the washer off, turn the drum by hand. It should move smoothly. 4. Run a short cycle with a small load. If E58 shows again, stop using the washer.

A lighter load can clear the code once, but it does not show whether the motor or the board is drawing the extra current.

Can an overloaded washer cause E58?

It can. A very heavy or lopsided load makes the motor work harder and draw more current, so we rule that out first. If E58 appears with a normal load, the motor circuit itself needs testing.

Is it safe to keep running the washer?

We would not. Repeated high current can stress the motor and its control board, so one small test load is plenty before you call us and let us look at it.

Will the motor need to be replaced?

Not always. The code points at the motor circuit, which includes the wiring and the control board as well as the motor. We test those before we recommend any part.
