What E64 means
E64 appears on electric Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch dryers like the EIED55HIW and EWED65HSS when the control finds an open circuit in the heater. Either the heating element has burned through or the wiring to it has a break. The drum usually turns normally, but the clothes stay cool or damp. These older dryers remain in many homes, and we repair them.
Common causes of E64
- Heating element burned open
- Heater wiring or terminal
- High limit or thermal device in the heater circuit
1. Run a short timed cycle and feel whether the air gets warm. 2. Clean the lint screen and check the vent for a crushed hose or blockage. 3. Do not open the cabinet. 4. If the clothes stay cold, call us and mention E64.
- An open circuit can be the element, a wire or a safety device in line, so we test each in order.
- We look at why it opened, since a restricted vent can shorten element life.
- We confirm the price in writing, and we say plainly when a repair is not worth it.
Other Dryer codes
Why is my dryer running but not heating?
With an open heater circuit, the motor and drum still work but no heat is produced.
Could my vent have caused it?
A clogged vent makes the heater work harder and trip safety parts, so we check the vent too.
Is it a gas dryer issue?
No. The chart lists E64 for electric models.
